The next developmental CVS version of TMip has now been released (version 0.11a). This has the major addition of an integrated
DHCP server within the CN application, so now it really is all transparent!
See here for details on the project, and you can download the software
from SourceForge TMip CVS, see the CVS link on the project page.
Or you can use the following to check it out directly (use a blank password):
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/tmip login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/tmip co tmipcore

Over the past few months I've been working on a new project, called TMip. This aims to provide transparent mobile IP
over both wireless and wired networks, with no need for any client software or alteration to IP stack.
I have just released the first alpha version (0.1a). More details here!.

| Wednesday 2nd April - 00:29 |
Martin Howells (VK2UMJ) has prepared some frequency allocation plug-ins for
AMV1, covering VK and VK2. He has included
both full/limited/novice and novice limited allocations.
You can download these from his web site at
http://www.qsl.net/vk2umj/amvplug.htm.
Thanks Martin!
Note: I promised to release the source code for AMV1 ages ago, and it never happened. Other projects
have taken over. But... I really should do it, so I will make an effort to get all the source code out for
every application I wrote for AMV1. It might not be a pretty process... some of the code is 6 years old!
|
| Wednesday 23rd October - 15:30 |
I have not had much of a chance to do any updates recently, but hopefully that will change soon! Time has been devoted
to University and a new wireless LAN project.
If you are interested, see the SOWN (Southampton Open Wireless Network) page for details.

| Sunday 4th August - 18:00 |
I've updated the latest version of my third year project package, which now includes
the simulation program. Documentation on that should follow shortly.
Also, another paper has been posted up, which was
presented at the ISSA2002 conference in July 2002.
|
| Tuesday 2th July - 21:00 |
I have finally got round to writing a small utility to allow AMV1 users to
change their frequency allocations and county callsign prefixes!
Sorry it just took so long! :-)
Also note that my IRC server is down currently, I'm kinda moving house so everything is in a bit of a mess!
|
| Thursday 26th June - 19:00 |
I've made some changes to my project package, to fix the schema validation problems. It also uses a newer version of Xerces.
The schemas are not complete yet, and also the regression testing scripts have broken (will fix shortly, after I move house ;-)
Grab the latest version of the code here.
|
| Sunday 16th June - 16:24 |
Exams have now all finished, which explains the delay in posting any updates recently!
The final project report is now up, on the documentation page.
I've also updated the latest version of the code.
Details on the simulation project will be uploaded in about a month when that project has completed.
|
| Saturday 27th April - 13:51 |
Back from Poland. Presentation slides are posted on the documentation
page for my project.
|
| Friday 19th April - 13:05 |
I've posted updated versions of the documentation for my project. Also, the latest
version of the code is available, along with examples of processing.
Slides will be up on Monday.
|
| Wednesday 17th April - 22:30 |
By the end of next weekend I'll post up the revised documentation for my project, a few extra bits. Also, the latest code
grab will be up (and I will remember to update it more now :)
Slides are nearly ready for the Poland trip! Only a few days left... eeeek!
|
| Saturday 6th April - 14:45 |
I've set up some IRC channels if anybody wants further information on my projects or anything else on this site.
All these channels can be found
on the server at slybase.homeip.net, usual port of 6667.
I'm normally around most of the day/night (Computer Science hours :-)
#amv1: Anything to do with Amateur Radio Utility v1.
#apps: Generall application/source queries.
#xmlnetman: My 3rd year project, XML network management.
#random: For anything else!
You may want XChat or MIRC.
|
| Saturday 6th April - 12:50 |
Final 3rd year project report will be up soon, along with
the final software package in early May (with many improvements). Will also be some manuals available too!
Submitted abstract with my project supervisor in connection with my 3rd year project to
ISSA 2002 security conference.
I will be attending the BIS 2002 conference
in Poland starting April 24th, to present this
paper. Better get those bugs fixed then :-)

I have updated the documentation on my third year project. Lots of
additions since last update, and I will put the latest code up soon.
The paper myself and my project supervisor wrote on the subject of my 3rd year project has been accepted, and I will
be presenting it at the BIS 2002 conference this April <shudder/> in Poland (knew I should have listened in language lessons at school!)
Got my exam results back for 1st semester of year 3... 79.2%. Only a few months till the next lot! :-)
Very close to releasing the next version of desktop manager, with quite a lot
of new bits added like transparency support etc... should be up soon!

Oh dear, what happened to the summer! Not much has changed on the project
front, but maybe now it's getting colder I might get round to doing some more
on
SlyBot!
|
| Monday 21st March - 23:50 |
Time for a new project! This time it's robotics!
I've been working on my new SlyBot project since the beginning of this year,
which aims to develop a series of experimental robots and a high-level,
developer friendly software control system.
The software control system will be powerful yet easy to
configure and develop, so that robotics enthusiasts will be able to
integrate complex behaviour into their robots without having to master a
conventional programming language or embedded electronics.
My hope is that anybody with a compatible controller could simply wire up
their robot, plug in the software, and make it move with ease!
|
 |
The software itself will run on Windows or Linux, and hence programs can
easily be debugged on a standard desktop machine before being placed on the
robot itself. It is not designed to be embedded as such, but I aim to run it
on a Linux PDA for my SlyBot series of robots.
See my SlyBot project page for details!

| Tuesday 04th January - 00:34 |
The XMLNetMan project I undertook as
part of my degree course a few years ago is now actively being extended as part of the Verinec
project at the University of Fribourg.
The original project aimed to provide an abstracted language to describe
network level services, such as firewalls, web servers etc. Simulation could
then be performed to validate the correct behaviour of the entire system,
before a translation/compilation process generated actual configuration
files for each service.
See here for details on my original
project, and here for details on the new project.

| Tuesday 14th December - 20:00 |
Wow, what happened to 2004! Time for an update I think; been a little busy
recently with work & moving house etc.
TMip news: TMip has been featured in the
Linux Magazine (April 2004), see
here for
a PDF of the article. I'm also doing some research into TMip2; testing out
some new theories etc. Watch this space!
|
| Thursday 10th July 2003 - 19:16 |
I have now (finally) got round to releasing the source code for AMV1 for people to continue their own
development.
See here for download details.
|
| Monday 16th June 2003 - 13:10 |
Version 0.14a of TMip has just been released. A few bug fixes and feature enhancements.
Includes ability to send HUP/USR1/USR2 signals to control both the MLR and CNs.
Details here and downloads here.
|
| Saturday 7th June 2003 - 23:12 |
The next release of TMip is now available (version 0.13a). Again, loads of new features, such as
ability to run multiple CN's per physical node, and the support for distributed address allocation
pools.
More details on the
project page. I have also written a general
introduction to the TMip concept.
Also, another TMip developer (Nicholas Humfrey) has written a MLRP Perl interface to
both the MLR and CNs. This means you can get fully dynamic views of your mobile network, such
as the example here.
You can download the newest versions of both projects from the SourceForge project page
here.
On other news, I've finished my degree! Yay!
|
| Thursday 1st May - 23:20 |
The next release of TMip is now available (version 0.12a). This has lots of new features, details of
which are on the
project page.
You can download the newest version from the SourceForge project page
here.
